Types of contaminations in water:
There are different kinds of wastes and harmful microbes, dissolved salts, and chemicals present in the water. Water consists of:
- Visible dirt or mud.
- Dissolved salts like sulfate, lead, fluoride, chlorine, arsenic, and more.
- Microorganisms like bacteria, and viruses, which can cause diseases like typhoid, cholera and more.
- Harmful chemicals are coming from industries or agriculture.
The types of water filters are as follows:
- RO (Reverse Osmosis) membrane water purifiers.
- UV (Ultra Violet) water purifiers.
- UF (Ultra Filtration) water purifiers, and
- TDS (Total Dissolved Salts) water purifiers.
- Sediment filter to purify physical impurities.
Brands are offering water purifiers with all these above-mentioned purifiers as multiple stages in a single water purifier. However, water at your place may not require all these purification stages.
If the water supply at your place
If the water supply at your place are soft water with no TDS, then normal boiling would be sufficient. You can replace it with a UV water purifier. If the water also has any visible wastes, an additional UF or a sediment filter would be helpful.
If the TDS levels are above 500 ppm, then you need an RO purifier. RO membrane can filter out the dissolved salts (TDS). The more the Quality of the RO membrane, the more the decrease in the TDS levels. The TDS levels up to 2000 PPM can be purified with the available water purifiers.
Water with more than 2000 PPM TDS levels are not fit for consumption.
